Wise Fathers is Richard Gift and Lee Macey. Rock, pop, funk and blues—music with room to move.
Wise Fathers formed in 2022, after Richard and Lee met through a mutual friend in 2020. They share a passion for music and, after much deliberation, decided to write and record a couple of tracks.
Once the first track, Shedding My Skin, was recorded, it was obvious they were onto something. As their confidence grew, the music started to flow. Nine more tracks followed in quick succession, covering rock, pop, funk and soul. Influences came from Roachford, Living Colour, Lenny Kravitz and Seal, with a hint of Motown sprinkled in for good measure. The work was fast and exhilarating, without pressure.
The voice
Vocals
Richard, cousin of Roland Gift of Fine Young Cannibals, is an experienced vocalist. He sang on the pub and club scene in Birmingham in the 1990s with his bands Something Different, Rosewood and Fuse, pursuing the ever-elusive record deal.
He brings great soul to his voice and has pushed the music in different directions, introducing elements such as church organ to complement its gospel influences.

Lee is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer who has released music under Conspires To, Station Island, Terra Nova and his own name.
Most at home with rock and metal, Wise Fathers has seen him explore more diverse styles, using acoustic guitars and piano on many of the tracks. Usually starting with an acoustic song or a bass riff, the music is then shaped around Richard’s voice, becoming the finished tracks through recording and production.
